Today we saged the house to give it good vibes – positive energy.
I had bought the sage yesterday, then got home and saw the instructions were very complicated. I also realized I probably wasn’t adequately prepared for what must be done. According to the instructions, I would also need a candle, a feather to fan the smoke, and specially chosen scented oil to dress the candle.
So it was back to the New Age store today. Sure enough, in the same display area where I had found the sage, there were feathers and scented oil.
The girl at the counter was very sweet and helpful. She said you don’t have to do the candle part. Just burning the sage is adequate for removing the negative energy from your home. She said just light the sage torch and go through your house in a clockwise motion, making sure you give the smoke a chance to get into all the floors, ceilings, doors, windows, nooks and crannies. Then when you’re done, fan the smoke out the back door, while asking all the negative energy to leave.
She said the candle part is good if you want to fill the home with your own positive energy. But if you’d rather prospective buyers fill the house with their own positive energy, then don’t do the candle part.
My future ex and I opted to let the future buyers fill the house with their own positive energy.
We asked, what about a ritual? Did we need to say a prayer, chant something? What did she recommend?
She said it’s all what you’re comfortable with. You could say a prayer to whoever for whatever, depending on your faith & comfort level. She also said we could walk through the house and sage it either separately or together. She said the important thing is your intention, that your intention be clear as you walk around, clearing the negative energy.
Good advice.
When we got home, my future ex and I proceeded to sage the house together, but I wasn’t feeling the appropriate positive energy, so I suggested we do it separately.
We completed our separate rituals about an hour ago. The house is still a little smoky, but I believe it feels better! (BTW – the sage torch we chose was white sage blended with cedar – very nice smell!)

Very interesting….can you tell me if the “positive energy” produced a quick sale of the house?

Do you go to each room in a clockwise direction? Or do you move clockwise once in each room??
August 4, 2008 at 11:13 am
You move the sage clockwise in each room.

Hi,
Approximately two years ago, I had a house for sale that wasn’t moving. I always felt a negative energy in the house.
My girlfriend suggested saging the house, which we did.
The very next people in the house fell in love with the house, but had a house to sell. After selling their house, they came back and made an offer, and ended up buying our house.
The girl at the shop where I bought the sage asked if I lived in South Plymouth, which I did. She said there was a lot of negative energies from the spirits of Indians, in South Plymouth.
Whatever, it seemed to work for selling the house in a tough market.
I am thinking about saging the new house I am renting.

Wow – What a great story!

I purchased the sage yesterday and looking for recommendations on how this should be done. The person I purchased it from recommended that I make a list of all the positive energies I would like to put into the house. Any suggestions????

I helped a couple get pregnant by saging the home. Shortly after moving into the home she had a miscarriage and then could not get pregnant…until the month after we saged the home. And we didn’t do the feather or candle bit either. Pretty strong stuff.

I bought a new home five years ago. Nothing seemed to go right from the start. Within a five year timeframe my house has flooded and destroyed 75 percent of the stucture, tarantulas coming in out of nowhere, spirits/ghosts coming and going, waking up scratched me on the neck, back, and arm. Just a year ago a shelf flew out of my bathroom wall cabinet and hit me on the forehead. I had a one inch gash and would not heal for over a month. We constatly hear banging noises. Just recently my husband has been harrassed at night by a female spirit. He says she runs her hands through his hair Folks this is scary stuff when an unknown spirit is physicaly harrassing you. Two days ago I purchased a sage stick and smoked the entire house. Since then knocking noises have stopped and my husband has slept for two night in a row. I hope this peace continues. I can’t sell my house in this depressed market so I am staying put.

Sorry I left this out. It is reported that the area I live in is an old battleground of Native American Indians and Spaniards. Their war occured in the late 1695-1705. This is our Gettysburg.

Hi I just bought some sage and Im planning on saging my house tomorrow as it’s a full moon which I was told was a good time to do this. I will report back on how things turn out. Just for your info – since buying this house 3 years ago nothing has gone right financially or in our relationship so Im looking forward to some good news.

If the house is filled with sage smoke and you have pets whatever kind I would imagine it can kill a bird or taint the water of a fish tank not to mention the lungs of a cat or dog. So be cautious of your little friends!

What color sage and where to buy….also, anything else that would work without the smoky?
December 2, 2011 at 11:44 pm
You can get sage sticks at any New Age store and some natural foods/whole foods markets.

Can saging a house have the opposite effect?? I am worried about doing it an inviting bad spirits or vibes in….
March 27, 2012 at 1:04 am
I’m curious too regarding the opposite effect of sageing? I was also told its best to sage on a full moon?

I’m living in my room, ending a bad relationship, waiting to move into my new apartment. I’m going to sage my room now and then sage my new apartment so that the negative energy doesn’t follow me there — wish me luck!

I am a Roman Catholic and went to Catholic school up till 8th grade. so you know if there is a God there is a devil. anyway i always had followers and my daughter as well.i noticed my dogs were stearing and following nothing. Got my cell phone took video and yup! saw lights gliding over them. So i went to the catholic church and got Holy water blessed each doorway along with windows, closets and corners dont forget the attics or basements. prior to doing this you bless yourself FirsT then anyone else in the house. Rebuke all evil and close all dementional doorways in the Lords name. I also started saying the Rosary took about 10-15 min a day and WORTH it! I can sleep peacefully no bad dreams and no barking. Remember, when someone comes into your house or you leave openings (doors, windows) its a possibilty they can come back. so for your own peace of mind do this at least once a month. saging is a bonus as well.

I have had terrible things happen for a few years now. It is becoming too frequent. From deaths, illness, loss of jobs, loss of funds, car accidents, and our dog getting sick. I’m done!!! So I’m doing something that isn’t in my character and my daughter thinks I’m crazy. But I don’t know what else to do? So today I have Saged our house. I feel better already. Now on to a brighter better life and new beginnings! 🙂

I have had footsteps, lights going on and off, and knocks at doors when no one was there in my house since purchasing it 12 years ago. This lasted for the first year, then went away, but returned last week. Have also had a whole list of things going wrong this past year. I purchased sage and plan on having a Saging of my house on Easter Sunday. I look forward to positive energy and wellness to fill my home.

I have been reading some of the posts. A few things I will mention from my own experiance and knowledge. When you purchase the sage, light it. Don’t get to hung up on the clockwise stuff. Always have an “intention” for your sage blessing. I call it a blessing because you are inviting a positive energy, and prosperity, and love into your home. That is usually my “sage ritual”, I speak from my own heart and want only positive energy, love, and happiness in my home. I repeat that in every room. I then open the window to release any of the negative junk out-I leave all doors, and windows open after every room I went in. If you bless the home with the windows already open all those prayers are gone. Open after you spread your intent. Pray for health, love, joy, happiness, financial blessings. Pray for family, and everyone who comes into your home from the outside will be blessed by the holy spirit and the white light. Everytime I am done “smudging”, my house feels lighter, and I feel more relaxed, and tranquil. Don’t get hung up on what you’re “suppose” to do. Its what is in your heart and your intent that matter most. Blessings everyone, and sage as much as you can, when you can, when negativity happens sage, feeling stressed, sage. As you would clean–also sage, does not matter about full moon, half moon, whenever.

I did my first sagging yesterday after having gathered all my supplies and reading the many posts on this site. ..yours in particular. Although I haven’t done the basement yet because I can’t take the steps, I can already sense a difference within my house. I slept like a baby last night…something I haven’t been able to do since I moved into the rental. There is something to be said for this ritual.
June 30, 2013 at 7:58 pm
Thanks Tracey, I agree. When I sage, the whole place feels light. I too, sleep better, and usually have active dreams. Interesting. If you do get a chance, try and do the basement–its good to cover all over. Thanks for the reply.
