I’m really enjoying this book “Dark Nights of the Soul” by Thomas Moore, because he even has a name for what I’ve been going through. He calls it “liminality”, which means “on a threshold.” It’s that in-between state where you’re living between the two worlds of the known and unknown.
I’ve been thinking of it more as “limbo”, but I like “liminality” better. It makes it seem more like a real, necessary-for-growth “thing” to be experienced, as opposed to “OMG I can’t wait to get to the other side of this!”
He says that when you’re going through a liminality, it’s common to let a lot of things that have been part of your life slide, like some good habits, activities and relationships. Ok. That explains a lot.
He also said some people have even been known to stop bathing, get all dirty and wild and grow a beard. I don’t see that happening here though. I love my hot baths and I only have one chin hair that shows up about once every 2 years and frankly it just doesn’t look that good.
However, if I had read this book 6 months ago, that would’ve been a great title for my blog:
