So I’m sitting in the teaching studio the other day and two students in a row couldn’t find middle C. The lessons were a half an hour each. I thought to myself, I don’t know if it’s the Christmas candy or what, but this is hellck on earth and I can’t do this anymore.
In the meantime, I just got another church gig in January from the minister who was concerned about my “darker” music. I felt bad for his discomfort in trying to tell me as diplomatically as possible how much he enjoyed my music, but why he hadn’t invited me back to his church in all this time. I tried my best to let him know it was all ok – it was no big deal and I understood. I don’t think I’m as dark as I used to be, in general, anyway anymore.
Then I was at a party the other night and met two more people who want me to sing at their churches.
I guess it’s time to learn “Down by the Riverside.”
