My future ex and I have not been in close touch with our mediator lately because we’re waiting to either sell our house or decide not to, since that’s the biggest piece of the puzzle. Also, we have paid our fee in one large, up front “retainer”, and every time we speak to her, we get a bill that our balance has goes down.

The other day our realtor called us to say a prospective buyer was considering our house and would make a decision by the end of the week.

Later that day, we got an e-mail from our mediator saying “How’re things going?” My future ex responded with “We’re working on selling the house right now and might have some interest” To which our mediator responded “That’s great news on the house! Just let me know!”

From recent past conversations, I know a few friendly little comments like that can easily cost $25-$50.00. I can see her typing in her billing log:

12/12 /07 Conversation with ___ re: possible sale of the house. Hours = .1

Next time the correct answer should be: “Fine. We’ll talk to you in January.”
