When a song runs through your head, take note. My subconscious talks to me all the time like that – I’ll wake up with a particular song playing around in my head non-stop like a broken record – sometimes for weeks. Tori Amos, Annie Lennox and Jennifer Warnes – my biggest hit list. These past few days it’s been Ani DeFranco (see previous post).

Do you know how some books begin each chapter with a recipe? One writer, I forget who, began each chapter with a car song. If I ever write a book, I think I’ll begin each chapter with a poem or a song.

As a songwriter, sometimes people will tell me they can’t get a particular song out of their head and they don’t know why. What I find interesting is when someone I’m close to says that, and the “why” is screaming obvious.

One of the songs from my first CD ” is called “It’s All Dissipating”. It’s about how as we get older, people get too busy for some of the nonsense that goes on in families, and the families drifts apart.

Someone I’m close to whom I know their family is completely falling apart said to me they couldn’t get “Dissipating” out of their head “and I don’t know why!” (Hello!?)

I just said “Thanks! Glad you like it!”
